Muse of the Week: Lisa Krainik
Lisa lives in New York City and is a sophomore at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts. She majors in Dance, which is her passion. Lisa grew up in a small town in New Jersey and moved to New York City during high school so she could have access to the best dance teachers and be close to the dance world. In addition to dancing and choreographing with her friends and fellow dancers from school, she teaches ballet to children. When Lisa is not dancing, she enjoys doing yoga in the morning and listening to music with her friends. A new interest of hers is learning to play the piano. She has been practicing each day to play a song for her friend’s birthday. Lisa is a performer, whether it be for a few classmates or a packed theater at New York City Center. Lisa was lucky enough to dance Polaris with Crystal Pite’s Kidd Pivot along with 60 other NYU dancers this winter. Lisa is deeply influenced by her classmates who come from all over the world.
We asked Lisa what her dream would be in her next steps in her career. She said, "I desire one day to follow my dream to be in a dance company that tours the world." She then went on to say after my dance career, "I hope to either work in the world of marketing for the entertainment industry or be a physical therapist for dancers and athletes." We are so impressed with Lisa's ambition and what she has already accomplished we have no doubt this budding dancer will soar high high high. Thank you Lisa for being our Muse of the Week. Learn even more about Lisa below in Stacy Igel's BTS Q&A interview:
1. Are you a Subway or Car (via, uber, lyft or other (bus/walk /etc) girl?
I take the subway in the winter, but when it is nice out I try to bike ride. I have a Citibike pass which is my favorite way to get around when the weather is warm.
2. Favorite spot to be creative?
I like to be creative when I am not supposed to be. If I put myself in a dance studio and tell myself that I have to make up something interesting, odds are it won’t happen. When I dance with some of my best friends, I generally feel very comfortable and good ideas tend to come up. My friends are a supportive audience which helps me create movement.
3. Causes you advocate for?
I’m passionate about helping teens who struggle with drug addictions, difficult home lives, and mental illnesses.
4. Favorite quote?
“Ideas are infinite; time is finite”
5. Tell us about your last moment you shared with someone?
I recently had my wisdom teeth removed right before Christmas and was in a lot of pain. During my recovery I stayed with my mom. When she would get home from work we would lie in her bed together and watch some of our favorite TV shows. While I ate yogurt and listened to my mom’s stories, I forgot about the pain I was in. This time shared with my mom was very special, especially because I spend less and less time with her as I grow older and more independent.
