“I feel like there’s so much anger, sadness in this world of social media that everything is around. So if you can at least do your bit to be kind to people. It will help with all the depression, stress, anxiety that people are having in their busy lives. Even if being kind can help even a little bit - it can still help mankind.”
Why should we be concerned with bullying?
“As I said, we live in such a fast paced life right now. Everyone is so busy looking good in front of social media, happy on social media, it leads to a lot of anxiety and stress. Amongst that, if the people we are meeting are bullying us, it adds to the stress of one’s life. Bullying can pull someone down, make them feel like they’re not important, and it can lead to a point where a point may want to kill themselves if they feel like he or she is not important. As an example, when I see someone’s story on Instagram or Snapchat, I think they’re having so much fun but not knowing what’s going on behind the scenes in their life. What you see on social media, is not exactly what it is. On top of that, when you’re being bullied you feel you’re not having a fun time anyway and people don’t like you. You can make a lot of stuff up in your mind, which can lead to very bad effects.”
What can we do to fight the fight against bullying?
“This happens mostly in the schools right? Especially in a place like NYC, which has a very diverse population, people from different parts of the country - different parts of the world - live in NY. So it can be related to race, class, anything of that sort. What we should do is we should have meetups in schools where people from different parts of the world can meet, understand their culture and figure out the issues that are causing the bullying. If it’s because of race, or whatever, you have to figure out the cause. The person being bullied should be given a seminar and workshops on what can they work on to build their personality.”
